Groove 101 are a collective of musicians drawn from London and the South East.
We’re a friendly bunch, each with a different musical background. It’s this melting pot of styles and experiences that makes Groove 101 such a great live band, whether it’s for a party, wedding reception, charity ball on some other type of occasion.
Kyia is an in-demand vocalist, who’s soulful, authentic, gospel infused vocals always enhances classic material and draws compliments from guests. She originally honed her vocals singing in church, and this background shows in her commitment to every performance.
Lauren, lead/ harmony vocalist, and make up artist. Lauren is a very popular member of Groove101, She is an accomplished, energetic singer, who brings her experience of theatre and live music to every performance. Adept at jazz, soul, reggae and pop, she effortlessly delivers soaring lead vocals, and tight harmonies whilst dancing and joining in the Groove 101 antics on stage.
Russell, is one of the most highly regarded keyboard and sax players on the West Kent scene. He is equally at home playing jazz, funk or RnB. His innovative voicings, tight unison playing and sinuous solo lines are at the core of the Groove101 sound.
Paul is one of the South East’s music scene’s most renown brass players. He has played a variety of events across the region from local parties to the Royal Albert Hall, theatres in Brighton and large festivals in Greenwich. His poignant muted trumpet solos are often the focal point of Groove101’s more relaxed jams however his humour and technique are best showcased on upbeat soul and ska numbers. He is known for his excursions from the stage to play amongst audience members.
Recently relocated from Nottingham, Mark is quickly establishing himself as a first call player on the South East music scene. Whether it’s tightly locking in with the G101 horns, or taking the spotlight soloing, Mark has it covered. His gnarly, funk solos and virtuostic reggae and ska lines always entertain the crowd. With a mischievous grin, Mark can be often spotted plotting pranks on other members of the horn section, and is a very popular member of the band. To top it all he is as good a violinist and keys player as he is a trombonist
Locking in with Richard at the heart of the groove 101 rhythm section, Jon is an experienced player committed to live performance. A funk obsessive, he is equally adept at slinky finger bass aka James Brown, Brand New and sophisticated slaplines similar to Larry Graham or Marcus Miller.
Steve is a renowned veteran of the West Kent scene whose subtle, inventive latin and jazz influenced playing matches his laid back, dryly humorous persona. His accomplished conga, tambourine, and shaker playing adds interest and takes tracks to the next level.
